Croydon Crown & Pepper Comments

  1. This place is all things to all people. An independent pub with a decent beer selection which plays the football, has a delicious and diverse menu of Indian and Chinese food and even has a shisha garden. If you live in Croydon, supporting the Crown & Pepper is a must!

  2. I’ve spent a bit of time in the crown and pepper.
food is ok…Chicken is a no go after the consistent chewiness every time I ordered it!
some fish dishes seemed very salted at times but when done correct is good.

But my major concern is the feeling of always being watched by the owners and staff related to the owners for what I consider being a young black male.
It’s nothing I’m not used ,as most young black males already know, it’s part of our normal day to day living.
But catching them watching me all the time was starting to get on my f-in nerves like no other.
Considering how many coloured people attend this pub….I started to think it might be something tailored to myself.
Always being told at the door it was at full capacity…when they have no idea why I am attending (food or drink) and knowing full well downstairs out the back ,where drinking is permitted has ALWAYS vacant space.

They won’t ever see my money again!

  3. Friendly staff, delicious food and good offers. Lots of televisions mean it attracts football fans. New open space at the back.

  4. Crown & Pepper is my local and I love going there. However, the food has changed and I feel the quality had fallen. I feel the chefs have changed. The Indian is far too oily I don’t remember it being so oily and as for the indo Chinese that’s another story. We ordered crispy noodles with prawn in black bean sauce but what we got was burnt noodles, full of chopped chillies and the black bean sauce was like soup just could not eat it. Sadly an awful experience.
I would make sure when you order to make sure to say no chillies or less as the menu does not tell you that you will get more than a handful of chillies

  5. Went for dinner this evening and to watch the football, amazing food, huge portions and all freshly cooked and piping hot. Cocktails 2 for 1 till 8pm ???? staff were brilliant, perfect for myself as a chinese cuisine fan and my husband who loves a curry, highly recommended!! Will definitely go back- only downside was no room for dessert ????
